Fire Watch Discontinued
Feb 17, 2007 -- The fire watch was canceled as of Thursday February 15. It had been in affect since Friday February 9 and consisted of a Quincy Fire Department person staying in our building overnight from 11:00PM to 7:00AM.
The fire watch was due to the earlier fire inspection finding a failed stand pipe system which allows water into the building from a fire truck or hydrant. This is different from the broken water main fire pipe which is a direct continuous water feed from the street that has been shut off.
Because of both failed systems we had no water able to enter the inside of the building for fighting fires.
A new visible outside stand pipe connection was installed on side of building near the oil boilers(replacing an aged 3 unit connection that was lower on ground and hard to see). The second old abandoned stand pipe on front of building was covered and will be removed so Fire Fighters do not get confused which outside connection to use.
Also, all the fire hoses in the stairwells were removed because of age and the fact that Fire Fighters now bring in their own hoses and hook up to the connections in the stairwells for water in order to put out a fire inside the building.
